Won't You Take Me to Como Town?

The Burley was loaded up with the kids and off
we went on our bikes for an afternoon of Como Town.

We rode the train, climbed the nets, drove the bumper cars, spun around
on the carousel and ate some great popcorn.

MAYDAY! MAYDAY!

We decided to spend our MayDay at the annual Mayday parade in Minneapolis. First Maura, Aunt Kerry and I carved out little piece of sidewalk for optimal viewing.

Kerry was dressed in her best hippie festival attire (note her shoes are derived from hemp)

And Maura, hers

And then the parade begins...

This was a great caribbean display, complete with sparkly butterflies

Then came the tribute to pork-barrel spending (all puppeteers are walking on stilts)

Then dung beetles and lots and lots of dung (not sure of the significance of so much dung)

And spiders
And even a butterfly who tried to land right on our heads

We then got to see my favorite of the day...
a huge bear who was as detailed as any of the puppets of the day.
And followed by some good atheist action.

Garden of Eat'n

This is the beginning of Maura's summer garden

We had to build a wire fence to keep the bunnies, squirrels, and MAHLEY out.
We'll see how this works.

Maura planted 6 bulbs today....4 tiger lilies and 2 daffodils. She checked on them 4 or 5 times throughout the afternoon,
each time evaluating whether they had started to grow.

The Easter Egg Hunt: a toddler's Myers Briggs

We prepared very carefully for the arrival of the Easter bunny...

Eggs were hidden outside in the backyard on Easter
(after near- successful removal of all dog poop)

Sam proceeded to run to this blue egg, pick it up, and promptly sit down, crack open the egg and eat each and every jelly bean off of the ground.

Sam's Personality Profile: Immediate gratification, sugar-crazed, crafty (he did get the egg open, afterall)

Maura, on the other hand, collected each and every egg she could find. Would not, did not, and TO THIS DAY has not eaten any of the candy in the 12-14 eggs she found that day. NOT ONE JELLYBEAN, NOT ONE.

Maura's Personality Profile: Delayed gratification, hoarder, and preferring ice cream and cookies over candy anyday

A Walk in the Park

Maura and I took an after dinner walk around Como Lake last week.

As a couple approached us from the opposite direction, I couldn't help but notice that the 20-something male walking with his apparent girlfriend looked really pissed off for no apparent reason.

As we passed Maura asked, "Why did that man have an angry face on?"

So damn aware of everything, it kills me.
